How do I cite YouTube using APA: Reference
Pattern:
Author's last name, Author first name initial. [Screen name if available]. (year, month date) Title of work in italics with only first word capitalized. [Video file]. Retrieved Month date, year, from URL.
Note: APA doesn't require access date but IB does
If viewed on TED Talks:
TED. (2011, March 31 ). Google's driverless cars [Video file]. Retrieved September 8, 2017, from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp9KBrH8H04
If viewed on YouTube:
Thrun. S. (2011, March 31). Google's driverless car [Video file]. Retrieved September 8, 2017, from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp9KBrH8H04
In-text Citation for APA include the date:
(TED, 2011) (Corporate author, year)
(Thrun, 2011) (Author's last name, year)
(Thrun, 2011, 3:12) (Author, year, timestamp if important)
PRACTICE #1: Find and cite a youtube on your own
1. Find a YouTube about the physics of car crashes that you think might be helpful for your science class.
2. Evaluate the quality: Who made it? Why? What is it good for? Google the company and creator to evaluate.
3. Cite the source using the PATTERN provided.
4. Write down what should be in your in-text citation? What goes in the parentheses? ( ).
5. Put the information into EasyBib. What happens? What is correct? What is not?
NOTE: Use a hanging indent margin. The second and third lines are indented like this:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
PRACTICE #2: Citing Direct Quotes and Paraphrases
1. Watch the "Google's Driverless Car" video.
2. Read the transcript above.
3. Create ONE direct quote. Cite the source at the end.
4. Create ONE paraphrase. Cite the source at the end.
What is a direct quote?
Use quotation marks and copy the words exactly. Always introduce it with a tag phrase.
EXAMPLES:
Sebastian Thrun (2011) believes that " xxxxxxxx."
One engineer believes " xxxxxxxx" (Thrun, 2011).
According to many engineers, driverless cars will "xxxxxxxx" (Thrun, 2011; Smith, 2017; Brown, 2014).
What is a paraphrase?
Summarize important ideas in your own words BUT still cite the source. Do not use quotation marks.
EXAMPLES:
Some people believe driverless cars are safer because ....... (Thrun, 2011).
Statistics show that driverless cars are 125% safer than riding a bicycle (Brown, 2017).
