G 6 What Makes a Civilization: Citing Practice

Cite these 6 sources

Book Manually (together) and Book ISBN short cut:
1. Use the ISBN  to create a citation. Find the ISBN on the back of the book or on the back of the title page.
2. Copy the ISBN and then find the ISBN box at the top of Noodletools.  Paste in the ISBN.
3. Select the book then import the data.
4. Check it.  Fix any errors you find. 

Notice: You do not include the city of publication so you can delete this city.

Britannica Encyclopedia
1. Go to the ASW Database list.  Click on Britannica Intermediate and open in a NEW tab.

Find the article called "Mesopotamia."  Choose the first article.  Notice you can change the reading level with the number tabs.

Britannica does the citation for you (look under the checkmark at the top).  Make sure you select MLA. Copy this citation.         
4. Go to Noodletools, click on +Create new citation. 
5. Click on WEBSITE then click on REFERENCE SOURCE. (All encyclopedias and dictionaries are reference).
6. Find where Noodletools says "Copy and Paste Citation."  Do this.  Check it to make sure it is accurate.

Go to the ASW Library database list. Click on ImageQuest.  Put Mesopotamia in the search box.  Select any picture that shows people doing something. Click on the picture  Find the citation under the check mark in the lower left hand corner.  Copy and paste it into Noodletools. 

A Website (you must enter the data yourself)

1. Go to this website on Mesopotamia. It is published by the BBC, a respected news source.Copy the URL.This is a Website (Web Page).
2. Go to Noodletools. Choose Website then Web Page. Paste in the URL. (You can leave off http:www)
3.  Now you must be a detective and enter the following information yourself:
          Author
          Date written 
          Name of website
          URL
          Access date (click on today)
5. Check it to make sure it is accurate.

SUPER CHALLENGE: YouTube (optional)
1. Click on this youtube on the development of the written language in Sumer
2. Put the information into Noodletools under Website: Film or Video Recording (click on YouTube)
3. Make sure you include the name of the person or group who uploaded the video (even if a strange name)

 

Finished?  Congratulations!  EXPORT your bibliography as a GOOGLE DOC. Make sure you click on  the ALLOW POP UP button in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

 

For First Time Users

1. Open Noodletools.  Bookmark Noodletools on your toolbar so it is easily available.
2. Click on REGISTER.  Use registration code:
          U: warsaw  P:library
3. Continue:
      a.Enter your ASW email and password.
     b. Use your name initials. For example: JW
      c. For phone number use 1234

4. Create a new project called Civilization. 
5. Choose MLA8 as your default style.  Choose the junior level.
6. To start creating creating your citation, click on SOURCES then click on the green button:  +Create a new citation 
7.  If you don't understand something, click in the box and an explanation will pop up. 
8. Always export your Works Cited page to a Google Doc . Noodletools will format it correctly for you
